The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has details on the new film/franchise restart for Star Trek coming from director J.J. Abrams (Alias, Lost, Mission Impossible III) that takes us back to Capt. James T. Kirk’s formative years at Starfleet Academy and the coming together of his crew. Abrams goal is to make Trek cool again and bring some optimism back to the genre of science fiction by delving into the beginning of Star Trek lore. The look of the film, judging by these images, definitely takes a style note from the original TV series but gives everything a modern polish. The movie involves Romulans and time travel as well as the Enterprise’s crew’s first major mission. Kirk is played by Chris Pine (Smoking Aces), Spock is played by Zachary Quinto (Heroes), Dr. “Bones” McCoy is played by Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings, The Bourne Supremacy), Scotty is played by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Spaced), Sulu is played by John Cho (Harold and Kumar), Nero, the Romulan villain, is played by Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down, Hulk), Uhura is played by Zoe Saldana and Chekov is played by Anton Yelchin.
