So I had seen this video posted everywhere on the web here lately and figured we might as well post it on our site too.

So the other day I was bored.  For those of you that don’t truly know me allow me to say that if by chance I happen to be:

• bored
• hungry
• and idle

this will not end well.

Like I said I was bored.  I had caught up on all my real work and was waiting for the opportunity to go home.  Unfortunately I was stuck at real work for a while longer, so I decided to run and get lunch and pick up a movie to watch during my down time.  The flick that I had decided upon was Resident Evil: Extinction. 

For those not familiar with the Resident Evil movies, then go here to get caught up. 

Now personally I didn’t think that the first two movies were all that bad.  Considering that throughout my thirty years on this planet, I’ve managed to see my fair share of crappy movies, the Resident Evil franchise is much better than some game to film adaptations.  Couple that with the fact that the movie stars Milla Jovovich, who;

1. apparently is required by law to somehow appear nude for no reason in almost every movie I’ve seen her in, and
2. is probably the thinnest, small breasted woman I find to be incredibly sexy

I end up with at least an endurable viewing experience.

However that’s not what I got with Resident Evil: Extinction.  It’s not the movie is bad per say, it’s just not good.  I mean I can appreciate the way the film makers wanted to basically fuse the idea of RE with the Road Warrior, but what does that have to do with the games the film franchise is based?

So that got me to thinking – why is it that almost every movie based on a video game seem to suck harder than an Emperor’s Club, $4300 and hour escort?

I came to the conclusion that I needed to do some hard, fact finding research so that I could then write a piece that could at least in some regard explain the phenomena that is video game movie crap.  But after the realization that that would take time and effort that I wasn’t willing to take away from Rock Band, I decided the next best thing to do was find other writers that had done all my work for me and post them here in BOM.

Hey at least I’m honest about it.

It’s no secret how I feel about the Halo series.  I think that the Halo games are some of the most finely crafted experiences in video games today.  With that being said, for a lot of gamers there is one character that is just as famous and loved if not more so than John 117, and that entity is his holographic AI – Cortana.

For those that don’t know who Cortana is, I’ll give you a quick synopsis.  According to the game, she is an AI that is based off of the cloned brain of Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, the creator of the Spartan II project that begot Master Chief.  Throughout the games, she is usually your only companion that you have in that she provides back story and tactical info as you play through the campaign.  And depending on who you talk to it could be argued that at it’s core, the latest game masks the quasi-love  story between her and Master Chief.

In any event, the folks over at I4U has brought this beloved lady to life in the form of Cosplay – the art of dressing up as your favorite characters from different mediums such as film, games, and TV.

Ok before you say anything I realize that it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything in the game section, so I won’t belittle you with excuses. What I will tell you is that at least when I do post something it’s at least interesting.

Today’s game that I want to draw attention to is the newly announced shooter from Deadline Games called Faith and a .45. The game is a third person shooter co-op shooter a-la Gears of War, set against the backdrop of the Great Depression. It features main characters Luke and Ruby in a Bonnie and Clyde-esque theme of them being a set of outlaw lovers on the run. The cool thing about this game (other than the name) is the fact that it is supposed to function very similarly to the way that GOW handled in that a friend can join the game at anytime taking over the role of Ruby.

Also very similar to Gears is the way that if Luke takes enough damage, Ruby can come in and give the “kiss of life” to him to keep him in the fight. One of the other things is that if you were to go at this game alone, the A.I. controlled Ruby is supposed to be able to handle her own instead of just getting in the way (*cough Dom cough*).

To say that I’m looking very forward to this would be an understatement, especially when you consider that I just got the wife to start playing Halo 3 with me and one of her complaints was that it sure would be a lot easier on her if she could see her character all the time instead of the first person viewpoint. Add to that the fact that I’m a sucker for redheads and I’ve got myself the first game of ‘08 that I’m looking forward to.*

Now this may come as a shock to some of you, but I haven’t really spent a lot of time on the site Deviant Art. However after finding today’s AYSK, I can see that I need to spend some more time there.

Reinaldo Quintero Arturo Torrealba – or “Reiq” (thank god he shortened that to Reiq) is a Venezuelan born digital artist living in the UK.  According to his bio on his personal site;

Reinaldo showed great abilities and a passion for art.  In the beginning his art was inspired by simple things, from comics to ordinary objects.  Later whilst studying at school he had the chance to watch Dragon Ball, an innocent opening into the world of Manga and Anime.  His inspiration was born from an intense curiosity for Anime and passion for researching artists and styles.  Artists like Carlos Pacheco and Joe Madureria are responsible for his love of comics, and artists like Satoshi Urushihara, Jun Tskasa and Shishizaru are his biggest influence in Manga.

Reiq has an extensive resume including work for companies including Lenovo, Western Union, AutoDesk and Microsoft.  Not only that but he has also taught at the CentroArt Institute in Venezuela.

Now I was looking at another site for all things Halo and I happened upon Reiq’s drawing of Cortana. After looking at his version of her, I thought to myself that this guy’s style is pretty bad-ass.  The site that I was on had a link to his deviantArt page, then after checking out some of his other work, it didn’t take me long to realize that Reiq needed to be featured here.
