Earlier this week I posted a video about a honest R&B song.  I wanted to use a picture of an obscure, former R&B artist for the preview pic and little Tevin was the first one to come to mind.  But after an exhaustive search (two minutes on google images) to find an adequate photo of him, I conceded defeat but not before I said to myself that I could always use him as this week’s WW.

Now again I apologize for my lack of effort in the past weeks in regard to my posts.  I am getting back into the swing of things, but since I’m still juggiling real work and fantasy work, I’m not quite up to speed on everything.  Therefore I’m going to admit up front to “phoning in” this week’s wayback.  Take it away wikipedia.

Tevin Jermod Campbell (born November 12, 1976 in Dallas, Texas) is a five-time Grammy-nominated American R&B singer-songwriter.

Campbell scored a string of R&B chart hits as a teenager in the early-mid 1990s. Like Usher and Marques Houston, Campbell transitioned from child singer to adult R&B crooner, and is a recognizable figure in the New Jack Swing genre of music.

Tevin Campbell was introduced to the R&B music scene as a protegé of legendary producer Quincy Jones in August 1989. Campbell’s debut single was “Tomorrow (A Better You Better Me)” which reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart in November, 1989. It was the lead single from Quincy Jones’ critically acclaimed ensemble LP Back on the Block which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1990. After working with Jones and writers and producers including Siedah Garrett, Campbell worked with producers Narada Michael Walden, Al B. Sure, Babyface, and others to record additional music.

Let me start today’s WW off by saying that I have a whole new respect for this band after we tried to play this song this past weekend on Rock Band.

You see Black Hole Sun, comes from SoundGarden, one of the grandfathers of grunge after having formed their band back in 1984.  However it would take the likes of fellow Seattle bands Nirvana and Pearl Jam, before the garden would hit it big.  Through their tenure, five studio albums were released but most people, (myself included) really only remember the fourth album that today’s song comes off of.

Sex.  Candy.  What more could you ask for?

Today’s WW comes from the band Marcy Playground, one of the post grunge era bands that popped up in the late 90’s.  Named for the Marcy Open grade school – the school that lead singer John Wozniack attended, it is said that the band was heavily influenced by the King of Grunge himself Kurt Cobain.

Eventhough the band has three official albums and several singles and ep’s, I think it’s safe to say that most of us remember them from this particular song off their self-titled debut back in 1997.

“I smell Sex and Candy here, who’s that lounging in my chair?  Who’s that casting devious stares in my direction?  Mama this surely is a dream.”

Well can you believe it?  It’s been a whole year since ATE went live, and to celebrate I figured that we should have a big WW for today since this is the feature that started it all.

Alright first I thought that we should have not one, not two WW’s today, but how about three?

First up let’s start off with some Jump Jive & Wail from a one Brian Setzer Orchestra.

Second I though we might slow things down a bit and go with some Blind Melon and No Rain.

And then to finish things off a bit I figured that we’d go with my all time favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song – Aeroplane.

Let me start off today’s WW by saying that this week thus far has been exactly like the title of today’s song.

First, our site was down for a little bit early in the week.  It seems that our hosting company’s sever that holds the mysql database that our site needs to operate went down.  Luckily it was back up and running in about an hour or so but it didn’t suck any less.

Second the reason I haven’t posted anything in the last couple of days is that my laptop’s power adapter went all Margot Kidder on me and I didn’t get another one until today – thus explaining why WW is late.

Then after two days of no internet, I find out that Heath “the Joker” Ledger died.

A bitch week indeed.

Anyways I digress.  Today’s song aptly titled Bitch is by Meredith Brooks off her 1997 debut album Blurring the Edges.

Today’s artist, Joan Osborne, burst onto the music scene back in the 80’s, however most of us remember her from today’s WW from 1995.

Hailing from Anchorage, KY, Joan moved to the Big Apple back in the late 80’s where she released a few indie recordings under her newly founded label – Womanly Hips.  In the 90’s her second album – Relish, is where most people remember her from with her hit One of Us.

For WW today, we’ve gone back to 1997, I had been out of High School for a year, decided to move Raleigh, and this damn song was everywhere on the radio.

Fly – by Mark McGrath (*cough* I mean Sugar Ray *cough*) is off the band’s second album Floored.  The thing about this particular song, is that until this single was released, no one had even really heard of Sugar Ray. 

I happen to recall the seeing the band for the first time on 120 Minutes (a show back when MTV still played music).  I don’t recall hearing them playing this particular song, and the songs that they did play were much harder sounding than this little pop juggernaut, but that didn’t stop me from purchasing their cd.

Well it’s a new year (can you believe it, we’re almost a year old) and time for a WW.  Let’s see who it’s going to be today.

Today’s song – Supernova, comes from singer songwriter Liz Phair off of her 1994 album Whip-smart.

Well it’s Thursday people and you know what that means.  It’s time for nanye to put up the WW that he should have put up yesterday.

Today’s WW (or yesterday as the case may be) comes from the So-Cal rock band Eve 6 off of their second self titled  album.  The song – Inside Out is the most well known song of the band having had heavy airplay back in the 90’s on MTV (you know back when the network’s letters stood for Music Television as opposed to Meaningless TV).

The name of the band stems from another 90’s icon – The X-Files.  Take it away wikipedia:

Tony Fagenson, who auditioned while attending the University of Southern California, was an X-Files fan. After seeing the episode "Eve", which featured genetically engineered characters known as "Eves," he got the name from the character called Eve #6 who made a remark about biting a guard’s eyeball, which Fagenson thought merited "Eve 6" as a band name.

Now I know what you’re thinking, why is today’s WW by a band that’s still selling multi-platinum records?  Well the truth is I don’t really have a problem with Nickelback per say, but the same can’t be said about my cohort.
