Heroes Convention

So I followed my husband around the convention this past weekend pretending to be interested in all the geek crap (just kidding snukums). It was a noticeably smaller crowd this year, but just about as smelly as the previous. I’ve yet to discover why fan boys can battle intergalactic monsters and save the entire planet from destruction all while scoring with the hottest babe, but they can’t manage to remember to rub on some deodorant. Not to offend you fan boys, geeks give good love. But there were entirely too many men in the 18-28 age range that should have known better. Here’s my helpful tip #85: Let that special edition variant cover go - invest in something wiser like Colgate and Right Guard.
And for those of you who accompany your significant others to cons to prove that yes - fan boys do get laid occasionally, here are a couple of things I found interesting.
and of course as always the beloved Jennie and her creation-

Movies You Should See: Kinsey

Liam Neeson provides a fascinating portrait of theorist and zoologist
Dr. Alfred Kinsey, whose name has been associated with human sexuality ever since he interviewed thousands of people about their sex lives and released his findings in a groundbreaking 1948 book, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. The book caused ripples in the scientific community and paved the way for further inquiry into the subject. Laura Linney and Peter Sarsgaard co-star.

It’s not what you think. These little green men are just two guys, Jason and Spencer, with a spaceship sized idea: Eco-friendly house cleaning services.

Movies You Should See: Children of Men

Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine star in this realistic post apocalyptic thriller where the world has become infertile. What is most striking about this amazing story are the parallels it draws between our current politics (ie immigration, terrorism, Homeland Security, Patriot Act). As a fan of Alfonso Curaon’s work (y Tu Mama Tambien) I was excited to see him tackling similar themes in this movie. Flix this movie and make yourself a better human.

There is one reason you should buy this and it's Alex Ross. The man is an unbelievably talented artist and he does the interior art in this thing front to back, not just the cover which he's been doing mostly for a long while now. This book is beautiful!
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti with art by Phil Noto, issue 1 of this 5 issue mini starts off with a Female Fury named Maelstrom who wants to become the queen of the evil ruler Darkseid and plans to do it by killing Superman. When she shows up on Earth she first encounters Supergirl and the aftermath of the battle takes a tragic turn. Pick this up. It apparently takes place before all of the Final Crisis crap, is devoid of excess continuity and has great art. Grade: A
YES WE CAN!
....'nuff said.
Totally scare the shit out of your neighbors and then take their candy! Bwahahahaha!
Wow! Just freakin' awesome and if you are not onboard with all things Green Lantern related then you are missing out. Geoff Johns writes one heck of a tale here that formally introduces us to the Red Lantern Corps, rage powered individuals who are sure to give the Green Lantern Corps one hell of a time. Shane Davis pencils this issue and the guy is unbelievable. There's a splash page in this issue that rivals what Ivan Reis is doing in the main ongoing GL book. Buy this one! Grade: A+
So far I haven't cared much for this series. This is DC's big event book for 2008 and the big completion to their "Crisis Trilogy" started with Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1986 and continued with Infinite Crisis in 2006. This one has been a little hard to follow and frankly, a bit boring, but thankfully this issue kicks it up several notches.
Conflicted hitmen and a coked-up racist dwarf equals dark fun!
May 8, 2009 we get to go for a ride on the U.S.S. Enterprise one more time. Well, beam me up, Scotty...
