Is your favorite show’s proverbial pale, skinny neck on the line? Here are some alternatives that you can start DVRing now!

If you like Reaper…try Chuck. (or vice versa).
Both shows posts similarly interesting concepts – reluctant super geek unrealistically wins the affections of the incredibly hot leading lady while living a 007 kinda life. While every nerd gene in me wants to like both of these show, they haven’t even made the DVR cut and it’s a toss up. But if you like one, chances are you’ll like the other. Chuck airs Mondays on NBC at 8, Reaper airs Tuesdays at 9 on the CW.

Here are the pros and cons:

Reaper Pros:
Taylor Labine plays sidekick “Sock” with the comedic genius of Chris Farley and the political correctness of Gregory House – hysterical. The show is scheduled for a full 13 episodes, so you won’t be caught on a cliffhanger. The aforementioned love interest is much less annoying than her counterpart. Ray Wise (previously a VP on 24) plays an excellent satan.
Reaper Cons:
Call me old fashioned, but I like my superhero-ish type people to retain their secret identities. Here, everybody but Mom and Girlfriend know – ain’t that how it always is? Lead, Bret Harrison just isn’t a good actor and his character is written rather whiney.

Chuck Pros: Leading man Zachary Levi is more charming than his counterpart, there is considerable less whining from this character and he is a better actor.

Chuck Cons:
All the whine in this program comes for sidekick “Morgan”. The female lead is unbelievable and annoying. The show’s premise of information implanted into Chuck’s brain is theoretically more plausible than Reaper’s dealings with the devil, so why do I believe it less?

If you love Heroes…you might like Pushing Daisies.
These two shows have only a vague commonality in that they both deal with the “supernatural”. If you’re not up to date on Heroes, then you should immediately flog yourself and then go here. Good, moving on…
Pushing Daisies has stolen my cold dead heart. Its tender love story, quirky mysteries and Technicolor landscapes make for a phenomenally well crafted show. Supporting characters are just as interesting as the leads and the overall good-hearted themes are endearing and refreshing. Daisies has been picked up for a full season, but you’ll have to DVR the repeats until the strike is over.

Pushing Daisies airs Wednesdays on ABC at 8pm.
If you like Dancing with the Stars…you’ll need to leave now. No, seriously, get the f#ck out and go watch some Next Top Model or some other sh#t, cause you’re in the wrong place.

If you like any of the CSIs…you’ll love Criminal Minds.
I think most people agree that the original is always the best. Now, with the departure of our first original CSI, Sara Sidle, we’re at risk of having someone decidedly grating to replace her. The jury is still out on the new chick – we’ll see. If you haven’t been watching CSI: NY, check it out again, they’ve really gotten their stuff straight since Season 1, but if you’re already watching both and you’ve missed Criminal Minds, start watching this show NOW! This is not on my DVR lists because it’s just too good to pass up and I have previously touted the merits of this show. One of the best aspects of any crime drama is the psychological motives behind the very bad things that these very bad people are doing. If you’re thinking Criminal Minds would be too mundane or cerebral for you consider this: this past week’s episode was about a cannibal who ended up serving soup to the search party of the girl that he had killed. Guess what was in the soup? OH yeah baby, the girl that they were searching for. Criminal Minds kicks it up a notch – BAM!

Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 9pm on CBS.

Other good bets:

Women’s Murder Club – based on my favorite James Patterson novels, women will love the dynamics between these characters, men probably not so much. Fridays, ABC 9.
Numb3rs – great casting and characters make this show good. Fridays, CBS 10.

Nathan Fillion (born March 27, 1971) is best known as badass Captain Malcolm Reynolds from the TV show Firefly and the film based on the show, Serenity. The man is a great actor but also seems to be an all around great guy–the kind of dude you’d want to have a beer with.

In addition to Firefly he has been in a bunch of TV shows (One Life to Live, Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, Drive and Desperate Housewives) and a few movies (Slither, Waitress, White Noise 2 and Saving Private Ryan). The man is proud to be most known as the cocky Captain Reynolds from Firefly and boy, did he make being a Browncoat look good. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Then do yourself a favor and rent Firefly and Serenity–you’ll be glad you did!

Back when I was a sophomore in high school, there was this little skater boy named Israel who I was totally enamored with. He was a phenomenal artist who actually went on to do work on Hellraiser 3.

His bright blue eyes and dark skater boy haircut were irresistible to me. Before Israel left to attend a prestigious art school, he taught me a few things.

He taught me that cool people did exist in our little redneck hometown, but most importantly he taught me that fat chicks shouldn’t try to skate.

So today’s WW goes out to Israel and all the memories that I have of that brief moment in time.

Jim is one of the most recognized faces in weather today. When he shows up, you know the weather is going to get interesting. Jim’s passion for field reporting during extreme weather events is well known among TWC viewers. Whether it’s “thunder snow”, an ice storm, tornado chasing or a category 5 hurricane, there is no place Jim would rather be than right in the “eye of the storm.”

What more is there for me to say other than;

“cover me in honey and let me roll around in a colony of fire ants”

so long as his F3 sized tornado comes and hammers my coastline.

Today’s rant is brought to us by: Brian Euthanization is Wasted on the Dogs This blog is written in dedication to those in society who I wish to be “cleansed” from their particular actions. The first group to be cleansed is bad drivers. When I say bad drivers, this not only means people with bad driving records, but certain things that people do to classify themselves as bad drivers. The first “non-violation” of a bad driver is the stubbornness/refusal to leave the left lane of a highway. It is designated stubborn when the person who is driving thinks that 70mph is an adequate left-lane speed, but tell that to the 10 drivers behind him who are looking to go 5/10 mph more than that. The other “cleansed” driver from the roads is the nonsignaller. It’s one thing to be in a lane designated for a specific turn. However, when there is no distinction in a lane between going straight and turning right, there needs to be a signal to give those behind you enough time to slow down. It must be so damn hard to move your hand 4 inches to indicate which way you will be turning. My second group in need of cleansing is the young mall crowd. “Like, I don’t know, like, if he likes me, but, like, I still like him, ya know?” This sentence is actually one of their better ones in terms of grammar and repetition of words. Malls need to install random pitfalls to have these kids fall into, so they can go to an alternate universe and learn English. Speaking of English, my final target is those who cannot speak English. No, not the immigrants (illegal or otherwise) that cross our borders everyday. I speak of the people who rip on those aforementioned people, yet cannot speak English “good” themselves. I can’t say all, but a lot of people who are like this do not appreciate the irony of statements when they make them. If you are looking to effectively criticize those English-less immigrants, learn the differences between (1) it’s and its, (2)to and too, (3) run-on statements….so many others to name. That is all for now. What a great use of 10 minutes at work.

CBS’s official 2007-2008 season starts September 24th.

CSI: Thursday, September 27th. The return of the minitaure killer. Do you think it’s the lab geek? Me too. Let’s find out together.

CSI: New York. Wednesday, September 26th. After the first season, this show really found its groove and with a few cast changes, quickly edged its way up to one of our favorites.

Criminal Minds: Wednesday, September 26th 10pm. Now in its fourth season it is easily one of the most underrated shows on TV. If, like me, you are always more interested in the motivations of killers rather than their means, you must start watching this. It’s CSI for shrinks.

House: Tuesday, September 25th. Oh Gregory, what will we do with you? Fox’s hit will be back soon and I gotta tell ya – I’d be happy with a total staff change here. Omar Epps’ character will be greatly missed, but the other two, not so much. Let’s stir it up a little bit, fling it out there and see what sticks. I’m game, and I know you are, doc.

Who doesn’t find this man hot?

Even men think he’s the man. He’s what we call an anomaly – incredible intellect, wisecracking smartass sense of humor, unbelieveable charisma and it all comes wrapped up in a hell of a package. And not one of those metro-sexual packages, but a real duct tape and newspaper kinda package. It makes me moist just think about it. I would so…. become a avian vomitologist and/or catfish noodler if he we let me show him my dirty job.

I’ve never considered Samuel L. Jackson sexy, the coolest mofo on the planet, yes, but never sexy. Contrarily, I’ve always thought Christina Ricci was cute, until this movie.

So, I guess that evened things out for me on Black Snake Moan. It’s directed by the guy that did Hustle & Flow (incredible movie), and has that same raw-edged, realistic feel. The acting is phenomenal, both Jackson and Ricci are extraordinarily convincing – and I should know I AM southern poor white trash! No big suprises, although I was happily shocked to see little Justin Timberlake on the big screen – yeah, he should really stick to singing, although I must give credit where credit is due, the sex/love scenes were convincing. Although the ending was somewhat disappointing, I’m a huge Sam fan (even sitting through the entire viewing of Snakes on a Plane), so I’m glad I rented it, but I’m happy I didn’t spend a lot of money on it in the theater.
